Karate Juku ?

Karate Juku is a blog that focuses on the martial art Karate, presented and written through the opinion and the point of view of its author, myself.

In this blog I speak about my discoveries, my anecdotes, and my little stories about Karate that I experienced while travelling across Okinawa, Japan, and around the world.

The purpose of this blog is not to teach you karate, this blog is by no means a substitute for a dojo and a sensei who follows you for years. The goal of this website is to assist all of us in our practice and our training. The goal is to be a kind of headquarters where the practitioners of this martial art can come meet, discuss, and share about their passion 🙂

So, why did I choose the term Juku, and what does it mean in the first place?

The first time I met and understood the meaning of this word it was during my visit to Okinawa. After 2 hours training with Onaga Yusuke sensei (master of Karate and Kobudo) he explained me that the term Juku, which is part of the name of his dojo, Kaiho Juku, means “school” or “institute” . Later, in Tokyo, I also found this word in the name of Naka Tatsuya sensei‘s dojo (master of Shotokan), Taishi Juku. He explained that Taishi means “Great Ambition” which is why his dojo teaches karate with the great ambition to excel in this martial art and to understand the different aspects that are famous, modern, or buried deep in the ancestral traditions.

So, as an honor to these great masters, I decided to name this blog, Karate Juku.
